Simple and effective ways to stay fit

Walking. Research in exercise medicine has shown that brisk walking is one of the simplest and most effective forms of aerobic exercise. Practitioners should tailor the intensity to their own health status, physical condition, age, and personal habits. A typical pace is about 100 to 130 meters per minute, with each session lasting at least 20 minutes. It’s best to walk daily either before dinner or at least half an hour after a meal, choosing locations with fresh air and a pleasant, tranquil setting.
Jogging. Today, jogging is one of the most popular forms of aerobic exercise worldwide, offering significant benefits for maintaining healthy cardiac function, preventing cardiac decline, and warding off muscle atrophy. It also helps prevent and manage coronary heart disease, hypertension, atherosclerosis, obesity, and other conditions. When jogging, avoid rushing; maintain a steady pace that feels comfortable subjectively and keeps your heart rate at or below 180 minus your age per minute. For example, a 60-year-old should aim for a heart rate of 180 minus 60, or 120 beats per minute, during jogging. Each session should last at least 20 minutes, and you should engage in this activity at least four times a week.
Alternate between running and walking. There are two approaches: one is to start with walking and then switch to running—walk for one minute, followed by one minute of running, alternating in this manner. Every two weeks, you can gradually increase the intensity by shortening the walking intervals and extending the running periods. The other approach begins with walking and progressively transitions to slow jogging as a substitute for walking. Aim for sessions lasting 20 to 30 minutes, at least four times per week.
Swimming. Swimming as a form of fitness is a full-body workout that takes advantage of buoyancy, water resistance, and friction, as well as the sensation of weightlessness experienced in water. It is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. The intensity of swimming is roughly comparable to running; your heart rate during exercise can be kept at 180 minus your age, then subtract another 10. For example, a 60-year-old should aim for a heart rate of 180 − 60 − 10 = 110 beats per minute while swimming. Aim for sessions lasting at least 30 minutes, and engage in this activity at least three times per week.
For modern people, the pace of life is accelerating, leaving less time and fewer opportunities for exercise. Prolonged inactivity is a major factor behind declining physical fitness and weakened immunity. In fact, staying active doesn’t have to be complicated—if you’re committed, you can certainly make it happen. As illustrated by the methods mentioned above, simply carve out a bit more time: skip one bus stop on your commute, walk a short distance instead… or, if conditions permit, go swimming—especially in summer, it’s both a great workout and a refreshing way to beat the heat. Additionally, if your workplace or neighborhood has outdoor fitness equipment, that’s another excellent option.
